MCP tools reference

Every tool returns { "success": true, ... } or { "success": false, "error": "..." }. Projects can be identified by numeric id or reference (such as D-REQ-001234). Dates are YYYY-MM-DD. If a name matches several things, you get candidates back instead of a guess.

Role: M = project manager, T = talent. * = required.

Action tools

Tool Role What it does Parameters
create_project M Create a project for a talent. It starts pending until they accept. title, description, category, talentId, endDate, milestones (each has title*, description, startDate, endDate, hoursAllocated), optional integrations
create_gig_request M Invite a talent with a budget. It starts pending. same as above, plus invoicingMethod* (completion or milestone) and totalBudget*
review_project_assignment T Accept or reject a pending assignment. Accepting activates the project. projectId, action (accept, reject), reason
submit_task T Submit a task for review taskId*, referenceUrl (link or file key)
review_task_submission M Approve or reject a submission that is in review taskId, action (approve, reject), feedback
submit_hours T Log hours on an ongoing task taskId, hours (positive number)
update_digest_settings M, T Turn a digest on or off, change its projects, or change the send time frequency* (daily, weekly, monthly), enabled, addProjectName, removeProjectName, scheduleHour (0-23), scheduleTimezone (IANA)
worksheet_fallback M, T For anything else: returns a link to the in-app worksheet message*

Notes:

  • create_project and create_gig_request need hoursAllocated when your organization has timesheets on.
  • update_digest_settings is additive. Enabling daily never turns off weekly, and the send time is shared by all cadences.
  • submit_hours only works while the task is ongoing, and only for the talent assigned to the project.

Working with external tools

Tool Role What it does Parameters
find_integration_entity M Look up a Hive project, monday board, Basecamp project, BugHerd project, or Asana project by name and return its id provider* (hive, monday, basecamp, bugherd, asana), query, limit (default 25)
get_integration_entity_details M, T Read what's inside it: tasks, due dates, status, assignees, and totals provider*, entityId, name, limit

Link a project to a tool by name:

  1. find_integration_entity with { "provider": "monday", "query": "Q4 Launch" } returns an id.
  2. Call create_project with integrations: [{ "type": "monday", "entityId": "<id>", "entityName": "Q4 Launch" }].

Google Drive isn't an integrations argument. If you have Drive connected, a shared folder is set up automatically.

Used only inside the Artish app

The in-app assistant uses the same tools and adds nine view tools that only work inside the worksheet. They open a screen instead of returning data, so they aren't available to external clients:

openTasksListUI, openInvoicesListUI, openProjectsListUI, openAssignedProjectsUI (T), openMessagesListUI, openGigRequestsInboxUI (T), openGigRequestsOutboxUI (M), openContactsUI, openProjectTrackingUI

It also has openProjectFormUI, openGigRequestFormUI, and enhance_gig_request for form-based creation.
